Grade 4

September

The new school year is finally here!  We are already working hard in 4th grade.  We have our Chromebooks up and running, and are taking advantage of the great technology we have at SES.  September is a busy month, with open house and picture day.

In reading, we are all reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.  This is a great book to start the year, it is a funny and relatable story for the students.  Once we finish with Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing we will be splitting into reading groups where students will be reading different books based on their current reading levels.  In math we are using a new program called Go Math!  This is a great program that I used last year in 5th grade.  We are starting the year refreshing place value skills and multiplication fluency.  In 4th grade we spend 1/2 of the trimester doing science and 1/2 of the trimester doing social studies.  We are starting the trimester with social studies, focusing on the Northeast region of the United States.  Students are learning the capitals, nicknames, location, and major attractions in all of the northeast states.  In writing we will be soon be starting a personal narrative.

There are several programs that we are using this year that students can access at home including:  Reflex, Typing Club, Study Island, and Freckle.  If you would live more information on any of these programs please feel free to contact me and I will provide login information.
